Wanna hear less from politicians this year?
Then change your party affiliation and declare independence from political junk mail.
Super Tuesday is gone, but the recycling of campaign materials has only just begun.
And I don’t mean the same old liberal vs. conservative b.s.
According to OpenSecrets.org, the presidential campaigns alone have spent upwards of $200 million dollars to become the leader of the free world — much of it in the form of direct mail.
Regardless of the content — democrat or republican, sainthood or demonization — these pieces have one thing in common:
They are all destined for the dumper.

Based on anecdotal evidence — asking our friends and neighbors at dog park — we received many fewer robocalls and much less direct mail leading up to Super Tuesday.
Why? We registered as “Independent/No Preference”.
Evidently, neither party wanted to risk primary money on voters not already drinking the Kool-Aid.

Being registered as “Independent/No Preference” had no effect at the polls — the worker gave us our choice of Republican or Democratic ballots.
Perhaps once the final candidates have been anoited, and the final push begins, we independents might get courted by both sides, thereby doubling our exposure to junk mail.
Only history — and our postman — will know for sure.
But until there is an option to opt out of political calls and direct mail — a whole other ball of waxy build-up — just say you don’t care. And mean it.
