(un)American Express

After receiving my 4th piece of direct mail from American Express OPEN for Business in 5 days, I have no other choice.

I have declared war on American Express.

In my previous post “(american) Express Relief from Junk Mail”, I noted that by calling 1-800-297-8378, you could stop all marketing materials from Amex.

Wrong.

If you have an American Express Corporate Card, you cannot stop mailings from their OPEN division.

They come in the form of “member benefits” postcards — e.g. 3% savings at StubHub; 5% savings from Federal Express; Hertz discount rental offers; 10% savings on Symantec Software.

While savings are nice — I don’t use any of those services.

But Amex will not stop these mailings — let me repeat that — Amex will not stop these mailings.

Even though all the offers are available on line.

Give Kenneth Chenault, Chairman of American Express, a call at 1-212-640-2000 and ask him yourself.

You know I will.
